With FireProbeTM, a portable MEDS product series, DapTechnology expands the product portfolio with a highly desired solution. FireProbe brings DapTechnology’s industry standard AS5643 & IEEE-1394 bus traffic monitoring features to a more portable form factor, usage scenario optimized application graphic user interfaces as well as a high degree of flexible configurations for customer-driven application-level optimization.
FireProbe is uniquely suited for diagnostic tasks within different industry segments such Aerospace and Defense (A&D), automotive, medical and industrial. Within the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) industry there is a clear need to extend the use of Mil1394 measurement equipment from aircraft manufacturing to aircraft maintenance and sustainment use cases. For automotive, the need to run diagnostics for automotive control systems is an essential requirement for vehicle maintenance tasks while similar requirements exist for medical as well as industrial installations utilizing deterministic IEEE-1394 control technology.
While all examples are impacted by unique functional and mechanical requirements, they do share very similar data acquisition and collecting methods which FireProbe's hardware perfectly addresses. Also, Cyber Security concerns continue to be a top priority, there is a growing need to decouple Personal Computers (PCs) from measurement equipment in relevant A&D as well as automotive development facilities. The FireProbe MEDS is uniquely designed to meet these varying needs, providing a secure and reliable way to conduct AS5643 & IEEE-1934 measurements without relying on a PC

By adding standalone operation capabilities to our product, a wide range of new measurement possibilities can be achieved, which ultimately enhances the operator's productivity. Additionally, the scalable and user-friendly software environment provided with the FireProbe allows for operator customized user interfaces, providing a more task specific user experience.
DapTechnology is proud to deliver products that not only set new industry standards but also become the preferred solutions for enabling the integration of Mil1394 in aerospace and defense projects. Although not originally designed for this purpose, our analyzers have become indispensable tools in aircraft programs, delivering reliable and accurate data that supports successful development. Our products are relied upon by professionals across numerous sectors, consistently delivering top‑tier performance in the most challenging environments.
At DapTechnology, we recognize the need to balance operator‑relevant information with a portable, field‑ready solution. The FireProbe has therefore been engineered to provide an optimal combination of usability and functional capability, ensuring that essential measurement data is presented in an accessible and efficient format. The integrated 10‑inch touch panel supports a configurable user interface, enabling operators to select and display measurement parameters within the framework of the program specific system architecture.
The initial FireProbe enclosure has been engineered for operational practicality and structural robustness, with performance verified against applicable NATO AECTP, MIL‑STD‑810 environmental and MIL-STD-461 (EEE) test methods. The product line can be extended with enclosure variants qualified to defined environmental categories as well as configurations optimized for specific functional or interface requirements within the established product architecture.
With a detachable Solid‑State Drive (SSD), captured data and detailed signal analyses can be efficiently transferred to a workstation for further evaluation using the de‑facto industry‑standard FireDiagnostics Suite software. In its default configuration the FireProbe product line is equipped with hardware‑based encryption options to meet defined data‑security requirements and ensure the secure handling of sensitive information across all supported industry sectors.
The FireProbe platform builds on the established architectural elements of DapTechnology’s FireSpy® and FireLink® IP cores, providing a robust and scalable solution suitable for deployment across aerospace, defense, industrial, automotive, and other high‑reliability sectors. The user experience maintains continuity with existing DapTechnology tools, ensuring a familiar interface that supports efficient operation and minimizes onboarding effort.
The FireProbe GUI is based on a configuration‑driven design approach that enables end‑users to select and arrange measurement and monitoring functions within the boundaries of the standard system framework. When combined with DapTechnology’s Control Panel technology—originally developed for FireSpy and widely adopted across multiple industries—users can implement application‑specific interface layouts using the provided library. Resulting configuration files are deployed to the portable FireProbe unit via the removable SSD.
To ensure cross‑platform consistency and interoperability, the Control Panel environment for both FireSpy and FireProbe has already undergone substantial enhancements and will continue to be updated in the coming months to fully support this unified configuration methodology across all supported industry segments.
DapTechnology has defined a set of representative use cases that map directly to specific FireProbe functional elements which are pre‑engineered combinations of software and firmware utilizing the dedicated hardware platform. We now offer a set of appliance-like "screens" for specific usage scenarios like Bus Recording, Packet Monitoring, Actuator/Sensor Monitoring, Bus Topology monitoring, Cable Testing. This inital set of co-existing screens has been derived from extensive interactions with users of FireSpy and FireTrac and reflect some of the most frequently encountered application scenarios. Yet, they represent only a subset of the broader capability envelope of the FireProbe platform, which supports a wide range of additional operational contexts across multiple industry segments. As the FireProbe product matures many more of these dedicated screens will be released.
We welcome engagement from customers, partners, and other stakeholders who wish to explore emerging application areas and contribute to the ongoing evolution of FireProbe’s functional elements.
