Founded in 1998 in Nijmegen, Netherlands, DapTechnology B.V. is a company specializing in products, systems and solutions based on the IEEE-1394 Standard. Ever since, the company has been working closely with the IEEE-1394 standards development organizations, strategic industry partners and key customers to develop world-class products using IEEE-1394 and AS5643. The DapTechnology FireSpy IEEE-1394a and IEEE-1394b Protocol Analyzer products have gained worldwide acceptance and are currently being used in various aerospace & defense, industrial, consumer electronics and automotive product development efforts. DapTechnology’s exceptional business growth is a testament of the company’s commitment to meticulous engineering disciplines, exceptional quality and customer satisfaction.
At DapTechnology we believe that every successful IEEE-1394 product development effort is a combination of skilled resources, project management and the right test & development tools. DapTechnology responded to the market’s need for IEEE-1394 test tools by developing the FireSpy™ IEEE-1394 Protocol Analyzer. The company’s FireSpy 1394 Analyzer product line has evolved over the years with models supporting both IEEE-1394a and IEEE-1394b, as well as multi-bus models targeted at more complex, mission critical applications.
As the IEEE-1394 market continues to develop and mature, DapTechnology is keeping pace with new product innovations. For more details on our current offerings, please visit our products page.
DapDesign BV was founded in the year 1998 by Jan de Vries and Cor Jansen with administrative offices in Oldenzaal & engineering offices in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. With only a handful of employees, the company developed and released to the market their first product, the FireSpy® 400 Analyzer, in the year 2000.
In an attempt to reach out to the IEEE-1394 community which was still maturing and evolving, DapDesign decided to join the 1394 Trade Association and do their first exhibition at DevCon 2001. The DevCon event provided significant exposure to the company, not only in the consumer electronics market, but also the automotive, industrial and aerospace markets. With some large aerospace programs adopting the IEEE-1394 technology, namely F-35 JSF, DapDesign secured their first order in the aerospace market in 2002. This was the beginning of the company’s exponential growth cycle.
With the introduction of the world’s first IEEE-1394b FireSpy® Analyzer in March 2003, and strong growth fueled by orders from the F-35 JSF Program, DapDesign made it’s mark in the aerospace & defense sector, and worldwide, as the leading IEEE-1394 Analyzer company.
In order to offer local product and sales support as well as local service to its growing US customer base DapDesign decided to branch out and form DapUSA, Inc. in January 2005. Also, in 2005, the company changed is name from DapDesign to DapTechnology.
Since its early involvement with the IEEE-1394 technology DapTechnology has always been at the forefront of enhancements for the serial bus technology. A powerful example is that DapTechnology was the first to release an IP solution exceeding the S800 transmission speed.
Additionally, DapTechnology was always actively engaged in enhancing the serial bus stability, ensuring testability of the technology as part of the standards works as well as improving the customer's integration of products and sub-products in larger test systems. These efforts very much in line with the company's focus on serial bus related Test and Measurement (T&M) activities and knowledge gained of several years.
These efforts have resulted in DapTechnology being recognized as a key player in the respective industry, powerful IEEE-1394 and Mil1394 products as well as a number of related patents. This IP portfolio is evidence of DapTechnology's strong standing and commitment into technology enhancements as well as furtherance of growth and proliferation of IEEE-1394 and Mil1394.
The IEEE-1394 Firewire™ market has evolved considerably since the standard was officially documented in the first IEEE-1394-1995 specification and released in 1995, more than 20 years ago. Subsequent specifications for IEEE-1394a-2000 and the new IEEE-1394b-2002 were released in recent years. Principal differences between the IEEE-1394a-2000 & IEEE-1394b-2002 versions lie in IEEE-1394b’s support for higher bandwidth, i.e., of 800Mbit/sec, flexible media coverage, more efficient arbitration, increased distances and a lower EMI signature. These new ingredients have transformed the standard and made the technology a more attractive and compelling alternative to competitive technologies such as SCSI, USB 2.0 and Ethernet.
The Aerospace & Defense (A&D) market is no newcomer to IEEE-1394. NASA was one of the first to experiment with the technology on the X-2000 Deep Space Program almost 15 years ago. Later space programs such as Minuteman, NPOESS, Orbital Express & JSF have adopted the technology and are moving forward. As a result of these efforts, the SAE AS5643 “MIL1394” standard was developed over the last few years to address the growing market for IEEE-1394 in aerospace and defense.
DapTechnology has received ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Netherlands Offices.
The certification was awarded by Quality Masters, a leading organization specializing in certification, in September 2016.
By receiving ISO 9001:2015 certification, DapTechnology meets the requirements of the International Standard Organization (ISO).
In early 2019 DapUSA Inc. has joined the GIDEP Organization. This membership is a commitment to DapTechnology's ongoing efforts to increase product quality and maturity as well as prevent components counterfeiting
